Post Basic Diploma in Critical Care Nursing (ICU/CCU)
(1-year Program)
This program is designed for registered nurses who want to develop a specialty in critical care nursing and pursue their careers in critical care areas. This is a one-year program that is fully recognized by the Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC) and the Nursing Examination Board, Punjab (NEBP). The NEBP conducts the examinations upon the successful completion of one year of academic and clinical training.
Aims & Objectives of the Course:
The aims and objectives of the course are to prepare competent nurses who will:
Work as bedside practitioners in all aspects of Critical/Intensive Care Nursing and prepare themselves for working in Emergency and all types of ICU care units.
Be skilled in making clinical assessments, interpretation of clinical findings, and taking appropriate decisions and action in total patient care
Be specialist nurses having advanced competency integrated with knowledge and skills by using systematic approaches to nursing care
Provide an educational framework that will encourage the student to develop skills of analysis and critical awareness to stimulate an enquiring and creative approach to both the theory and practice of critical care nursing
Provide an advanced educational knowledge that will develop the student’s intellectual and imaginative abilities to facilitate the development of independent judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving
Be skilled in all aspects of Critical Care Nursing by improving the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual well-being of the patient
Be able to recognize the individual needs of critically ill patients
Be able to use therapeutic communication skills and establish good relationships with the patient, family, and colleagues
Be able to prioritize patients' individual needs and implement a systematic approach to enhance nursing standards
Be able to manage and organize the unit/department as per protocols
Develop the learner’s ability to respond to changing needs in critical care in an analytical way
